Yes thats right! Rally Drivers are the most skilled drivers in the world, more so than F1. I'm certaintly not saying that F1 drivers aren't skilled, however, I beleive Rally Drivers are superior. The fact that they drive over snow, mud, tarmac, ball bearing sized gravel, at night, day, in fog, go over jumps, drive full speed only metres away from trees and cliffs proves my point. All track drivers do laps of the same track, therefore they know exactly when to break each turn, rally drivers on the other hand just go down 1 track and no turn is ever the same, they aren't in the routine of knowing when to break and have to rely heavly on their co-driver to give them information and only have seconds to react. After saying all that, i beleive it's a shame that there isn't nearly enough wrc coverage on tv these days. These are some of the most skilled drivers in the world and they go unnoticed here in australia. discuss your opinions also here is just 2 random vids i found on youtube after 1 min of searching. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5oRAVm_DDE

both are very talented, but i'd have to say rally drivers are most talented slighty, cause of all the bumps and rocks they have to try and avoid, while f1 has run-off areas, so you get away with more.
i like f1 more by the way

Horses for courses mate. Both groups are ridiculously talented. Drivers from both diciplines have crossed over at times and while they have been quick they have not been able to match the absolute pace of the regulars. Yeah it take immense skill to pilot a WRCar rocket through the forest but it takes the same absolute amount of talent to extract the last tenth from an F1 car when tenths mean first over no points.
Agree with tv WRC coverage though. However rally has seen a bit of a decline since the recent heyday of the Makinen/McRae era. The potential is there but the recent demise of a number of key manufacturers and the dominance of Citroen has hurt interest and ratings. A lot harder to package than F1 too, no nice neat 2.5hr race to program. Hence it usually gets packaged as a highlughts set at the end of the race weekend.

Let's just say I'd LOVE to see Sebastien Loeb in an F1 Car.
Now that'd be VERY interesting.

yeah that is true. I have heard that Subaru are planning to come back, which will be great because whenever I (and im sure many many other people) think about rally I imediately get the image of a Blue & Gold Impreza in my head. You are right that it is harder to get coverage, but I remember a while back they actually use to have extended highlight shows that covered each Rally over a number of episodes and those were actually very enjoyable to watch. Now there is basically no coverage at all. It would be nice if we can get those back on tv.

In some respects yes, I'd say rally drivers are more talented, and in others I'd say no.
Like comparing League to Union players

They are both quite different so its hard to compare. Yes rally drivers have to drive on different surfaces and jumps, etc, but Formula 1 drivers must be able to overtake, defend, race wheel to wheel, etc. So there pretty different.
F1 drivers for me though, just.

They still make those race weekend show but they are shown on pay tv. I think you can subscribe to vision on the WRC site and i also believ they have one of the best live stats and race timing/info packages going.

definitely rally car drivers. the conditions they encounter, the varying tracks and turns, etc. plus the fact they live on the edge in terms of running into trees and so forth. in europe rally is still pretty big, but the demise of manufacturers hasnt helped.
formula 1 drivers are extremely talented, but what they do does get repetitive to some extent and they have a lot more assistance. the difference is though that they have to contend with other drivers over-taking, etc.
i think the perception is much different of who is better in europe then over here. but partial evidence to the fact that rally drivers are better is that loeb has owned the cup of champions or whatever it is where all the different drivers from all the categories come together to race.

That has also been won by NASCAR drivers too. Now i actually think they're very talented, just happen to participate in one of the the most boring forms of motorsport, but thats not the general perception.

I see the Pics Prawn of Loeb in an F1 Car, but I'd like to see him actually Racing in F1 to see where he's REALLY at.
Everyone in the US was going on about Bourdais, I don't think there's much to go on about with him, I'd be greatly interested to see where Loeb would be at.

Right now WRC simply does not have the drawcards...there are 2(!) manufacturers...2!
And they are also getting slower...like Group N regulations in the WRC...please...bring back Group A every single day of the week
The drivers are fantastic, do not get me wrong...Fantastic, is an understatement actually but as Ferrari Army said F1 and WRC requires a vastly different skill set and it's extremely difficult to compare them...however racing, to me, is all about beating people on a track head to head...not against the clock...and for that reason alone i would put F1 drivers over rally drivers

Seems more like comparing AFL players to League players... WRC drivers have a broader skill set I would say, but they aren't going to beat the f1 drivers in their game. But both obviously have skill, and who's not to say that if an f1 driver had dedicated more of their time to rally driving, they wouldn't be the best?
