Anthony Mundine is targeting a surprise opponent for his next bout - Australia's most-unknown world champ Daniel Geale.

The Daily Telegraph has learned Mundine's camp visited Geale's gym in Sydney's south west on Thursday to discuss a fight between the two middleweights.

Although Geale (20-0-0, 12KO) is the reigning IBO World Middleweight champ, he is hardly a household name and would receive unprecedented exposure by accepting Mundine's challenge.

It is understood the 28-year-old Tasmanian has been offered around $200,000 to take on Mundine, with talks set to continue between the camps on Monday.

Mundine successfully dropped a division with his s****py win over middleweight veteran Shannon Taylor in Wollongong last week.

Mundine emerged from his win over Taylor as the No. 1 WBA middleweight contender and was expected to gun for that category's champ - German Felix Sturm.

The recent overtures to Geale, however, surprised many.

It is understood the fight could take place in Geale's home town of Launceston, but negotiations are far from finalised.

Gary Franciscas, a member of Geale's management team, refused to comment about the talks when contacted by The Daily Telegraph last night.

"We can't say anything at the moment," he said.

Interesting match-up and a much better preperation for a genuine tilt at a world title than over the hill Bulli Blaster. I think Mundine would be fairly confident of beating Geale, but Geale was super impressive against Dan Dawson last year and he's a technically very good boxer.

I think the fact that guys like Dan McKinnon and Nonoy Gonzalez have been able to put Geale on the canvas would give Mundine confidence that he can tag him pretty regularly, but again I go back to the Dawson fight, where Dan, who is a big puncher, wasn't able to lay a glove on Geale for 12 rounds. I think this fight showed what Geale is capable of.

1st round knockout for geale on wednesday night. Needs another tuneup before mundine though, but will definitely be a much harder fight than the potato sacks mundane is used to. Starting to see this fight as 50/50 whereas before saw mundine easy winner.

Haumono proved that he has nothing, a 1 punch bomb that if he misses he goes to water. Drew with Colin Wilson who was out on the beers gettting a tatt at the cross the night before the fight.

Fights been announced for the 27th of May at Boondall. Surprising choice of venue, Mundine hasn't fought in Brisbane for a long time, usually preferring Carrara at the Gold Coast.

Great news for me, I don't have to travel far for this one.

Also announced that Sonny Dollarbill Williams will fight on the undercard.

What? SBW fighting on the undercard? As in a serious fight or just some publicity thing for charity? Pfft, charity and SBW in the same sentence - what was I thinking???Laughing

Its for Mundines KO for Drugs campaign that he has. Apparently he's been training in France. I'd love to see him fight Haumono or someone decent and get his butt whooped but I have a feeling they'll feed him a bum so he doesn't get hurt

Tickets on sale via Ticketek.

Range from $50 - $500.

First Mundine fight ever in Brisbane.

Two time Super Middleweight World Champion Anthony Mundine will take his first step towards becoming a world champion in two weight divisions when he clashes with fellow Australian and IBO Middleweight Champion Daniel Geale, at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, on Wednesday 27May.

Mundine (35 wins, 23 by KO & 3 losses) declared his desire to become a three time world champion in the middleweight division last year, and while a possible match up with WBA Champion Felix Sturm is still in the pipeline, 'The Man' is focused on unheralded Tasmanian, Geale.

Geale, (21 wins, 13 by KO & 0 losses) is arguably Australia's most under rated world champion. The 28 year old from Launceston remains undefeated in 21 bouts, with his 1st Round KO over Canadian Ian MacKillop three weeks ago leaving onlookers gob smacked and Geale's corner in little doubt that he was ready for the biggest bout of his career.

The 27th May fight, which can be seen live and exclusive on Main Event Pay-Per-View, will be Mundine's second fight at middleweight and his first since disposing of Shannan Taylor in a brutal unanimous point's decision in February.

Mundine is yet to beat an undefeated world champion and is wary not to underestimate his opponent.

"Daniel is a very talented boxer who goes about his business without much fuss", Mundine said at today's press conference.

"I think he has realized though that you can't hide in the shadows forever and if he is the real deal, then he is going to have to get through me".

While undefeated, Geale admits Mundine will be his toughest opponent yet, but remains confident he can knock off 'The Man'.

"There is no doubt Anthony is a very talented fighter, but I've got the belt and I'm not giving it up without a fight."

"I'm feeling great both physically and mentally and can't wait for fight in May" - Geale said.

The bout is amazingly Mundine's first in Brisbane since becoming a professional boxer and he is hopeful the Queensland sporting public will come and support the former Brisbane Bronco.

This will be the biggest test of eachothers career at this weight. Would have like Geale to have a few more big fights before this one.

Risky fight for mundine - he should win, but geale is no slouch.

Geale to win; Brilliant Ambidextrous fighter. Kostya once said about Daniel "this guy would be hard to hit"
I used to date Geales cousin, from all accounts his a great bloke, family and fighter.
His younger brother Joseph will also be a great figher in the future Smile

Bought my tickets for this fight about 3 weeks ago Smile Looking forward to a great fight but I think Mundine is going to be a class above Geale. It's possible Mundine could be caught with a straight left but Mundines speed and evasive skills are second to none it's just a shame his chin isn't in the same shape.

My vote is Mundine in the 10th
