Have lost $170 on my last 3 punts through bad luck, friday night backed la goulle only to have michelle payne fall off due to pig rooting and yesterday backed gold salute e/w only to have it relegated into 4th due to a protest that i reckon was stupid as falaise had plenty of time to run gold salute down and then i had news alert only to have him rear in the stalls and miss the kick by almost 6 lengths, should have been declared a non-runner i reckon. Am almost to scared to have a punt today. Any1 else had this type of stuff happen????????

We told her it was the feral town bike female horse that has s-ex with all the stallions so they don't forget how to do it when they go to breed and so they don't get a massive build up. I find it funny that Michelle Payne was in a pig rooting incedent. It wouldn't surprise me if she has been in many pig rooting incidents in her career. As for bad luck punting. It feels like it happens more times then the good luck punting but maybe we just remember the bad ones more. I have had a lot of losers from stupid mistakes by horse and jockey but I have also had many winners from the horse and jockey in front of mine do the same thing. Your good luck is due so you should punt like there is no tomorrow and eat that free chinese banquet for dinner tonight with a nice drop of wine.

Bad luck stories - jesus Christ , Where do we all Start!
Worst ones i can remember, Paul Harvey "falling off" 50 metres after the start when the horse went sideways. They showed some minor footage of the start and i didnt see anything abnormal about the start only Harvey for once in his life didn't have the horsemanship to stay aboard this well backed commodity. Horse went little sideways but nothing that would make a jockey fall off.
I had an episode in a greyhound event recently when my greyhound was about 5 lengths in front with about 100 metres to run. Entered the home turn " i stood to collect about $500.00 and for some reason the lure was sped up and my dog just retired from the race and was beaten into 3rd place. Never seen it happen in a greyhound event before - not a big fan and lesser fan after that.

That's why I don't put money on greyhounds, a) No value in them b) Sh.i.t Like that happens c) the last straw for me was one day i backed this dog in NSW somewhere, looking like the winner coming around the bend, it was just about to overtake the leader, until the leader decided to latch on too its saddle cloth and not letting go of it, taking them both out of the race. Had $20 on it paying $10

I'm a bit hazy on the details now but I remember in the late 90's missing the trifecta in the the Doncaster (I think) two years in a row. This was when I was a dirt poor student. The horses I remember are Adam, Liverpool, Grand Lodge (that one that couldn't run in the wet trained by bede???) This was before flexi bets so I had lashed out with a 4 horse boxed trifector for $12 dollars. Would have paid for my partying and the Chevron for a year

My biggest miss was back in the mid 90's - there were 2 really good 3 yo fillies - Dashing Eagle and Assertive Lass.
Anyway, Assertive Lass was about $1.90, and Dashing Eagle $5.00 - I'd studied the form extra hard and didn't think the fave could win.
So, I stood Dashing Eagle out from 2 others (all I remember was that the horse that ran 2nd was 80/1 - it may have been called Misty Dawn), and 5 others to run 3rd - so I spent $10.
I got the winner - 2nd - 4th, 5th and 6th.
The 3rd horse came down the outside and knocked me off right on the post - it was about the same price as the 4th horse - trifecta paid just over $5000.
And the worst part was this idiot at the club had $2 the place on the thing that knocked me off and you would have thought HE got the trifecta.
And then theres the Might and Power/Doreimus Melbourne Cup (I had it either way, but it pays 3 times as much if Greg Hall was right)

Have you ever had a punt in a pub over the $200.00 mark and waited for the attendant to clear your bet but unfortunately never got on and watched your horse WIN.
Oh yeh! Got a tip from a reasonably reliable source - back in the 90's for a John Size trained horse called Allez Bleu. At the time of the bet it was paying tote odds of $27.00 and the young bar/tab attendant found in her interest to serve another beer rather than clear the bet i had just made.
How do you feel when you watch this thing come down the outsdie and - you guessed it,. I was a regular in this place which hurt so bad but learnt a pretty good lesson.
I know this must have happened to someone else out there - maybe not to this extent - but that bet you just missed.

Nothing too drastic, just numerous quaddies killed on the last leg.
Especially sad in the days all quaddies were 100%

Yesterday, on the dish lickers, had the trifecta coming round the bend they were all clear and bam. Footage was lost and then the announcement that the bunny had been caught. Goodbye trifecta!

I hate quaddies, Either out 1st or last leg.
Last years Cox Plate or Caulfield cup day cant remember..
Last leg i had 4 horses going including the 3 favourites and Hurricane Gust paying about $15. Was looking at a $5.5k quaddie even if the fav got up and if Hurricane Gust got up was looking at 16k and had it for just over 40%.
2 of the favourites faught it out in the lead all race and were gone by the turn so it wasn't looking good, until Hurricane Gust emeraged from the pack and shot to the lead with 200m to go looked home, i was yelling and whipping it home.
Then with 100m to go it's like it ran into a brick wall and a O'Rileys Clock (pretty sure it was this horse if not a similar name) came from last with a dashing run to pip me on the post. paying $20+ the win.
Gutted.

How many times have you guys put down the wrong No. or wrong race number on your tickets. It happened to me one day, went to back this thing in Ipswich, paying about $60 (it had reasonable form as well) any way put $3 win $2 place on it, and yep it got up on the line paying $60 for the win, happy as, until I looked at my ticket & seen that I'd put down the wrong race number. grrrrrhh. Valuable lesson learnt that day, always check your tickets!!

last year on stakes day, i was at some non-tab dog meeting in western sydney and i wanted to back valedictum eachway in the big one. I said the wrong race number - i think i said 6 instead of 7 and i got hidden strings in the race before. I realised my mistake a minute later and got it changed to valedictum. Hidden Strings wins at 60/1 and Valedictum is the cert beat of the carnival. I was fuming. I've learnt tho, if i make a mistake i just keep the ticket and put another on (if i can afford to).

Nothing better then the mistakes that turn out good.I did a $6 unit ($36) boxed trifecta instead of a $1 ($6) boxed trifecta before flexi betting had came into Victoria. I was too hungover to ask for them to cancel the bet. I got the trifecta and it paid $170 odd a unit. Thankfully Victoria now has flexi betting for poor and dumb idiots like myself
