Who will nominate?
Will the likes of 'Keefe & Carr roll the dice & hope Melbourne, the Eagles & the Dockers pass them by OR 'better the devil you know'?
Is there a ruckman there for the Tigers?

Pretty sure Harris has another year? Is the order of picks for the pre-season draft just the reverse of the position that each club finished the season on? Or have there been some changes?

Harris is contracted, he just doesn't want to play under Laidley. He's got little choice now, unless he can convince the club to delist him and pay him out on his contract (hahaha, yeah right).
Preseason draft follows same order as National draft. Bottom team first, second bottom team second, etc, etc. Hawthorn have pick 16 so I highly doubt they are in the running for O'Keefe should he nominate. I reckon he will, so will likely play for Essendon or Carlton next year, so the reports suggest.

It's not out of the question, but it's not common practice for clubs to select players in the preseason draft that explicitly do not want to go to them. It wouldn't be against the rules, but it's just not been done that way previously. Mind you, the trade week is ruthless, so it is a strange one that there is a sense of "honour" in the conduct of the preseason draft. As long as a club can afford the salary he nominates, they have the right to draft him. I doubt the Eagles will, as he has explicitly stated he wants to play for a Vic club, or stay at the Swans...but it doesn't mean they can't if they choose to. Do the Eagles have the money to pay him 500K per year for four years?

That would really backfire. O'Keefe only wanting out of Sydney, purely because he wants to move back to Victoria, only to end up in Western Australia. Screw it, if O'Keefe nominates for the PSD, let the Eagles screw everyone over and take O'Keefe at Number 2.

I believe they will. Kerr is on big money, i assume Cox would be too, other than that the team's full of aging players and young guns, therefore on smaller contracts. 500K would be an easy fit into their salary cap over 4 years in my opinion.

But then again Carlton took Stevens who wanted to go to Collingwood so maybe the rule doesn't apply to them.

There is no actual rule. As long as a club can meet the player's nominated salary then they can draft him. Stevens ended up in the PSD because Port wouldn't play ball with Collingwood. Stevens knew when he went to the PSD that Carlton would most likely snare him. He could have stayed at Port if he chose, but he wanted to go, so he accepted his fate. I don't think he was bothered by ending up at Carlton, it was just that Collingwood was his preference. I imagine - and I'm only speculating - that he would have been annoyed if he ended up at Brisbane or Sydney. I think he was happy, in the end, just to land at one of the "Big" Vic clubs.

That's the problem O'Keefe has. He wants to go to Melbourne but he has got to get through West Coast, Freo and Port to get there. Unless he puts like 1m per season on his head, he's pretty much stuffed.

I'm pretty sure people can quit their jobs... happens all the time. Why would the Roos keep a player that explicitly doesn't want to be there?

He can quit his job, no doubt, but that would preclude him from gaining employment within that same field for the duration of the contract currently in place. If Harris walks out on North, he wouldn't be able to play AFL footy for any other club until his contract expires unless North terminate the contract. So yes, he can quit, but it would mean sitting out of AFL footy for a year or two...and then who would draft him? No-one.

The Eagles drafted Tim Watson after he retired the first time ... didnt pay off but. Not sure how O'K would earn that sort of money out of footy. Based on 08 the Eagles should have plenty of room in their cap - still time to play the take a cut or we delist.
