how many of you blokes are going to the game, should be a good one, Brisbane should get a good turnout.
some big names playing here, the likes of Schwarzer, Neill, Emerton and Cahill from the English Premier League.
Jason Culina has been a really crucial player for PSV Eindhoven this season in their midfield
Carney on the wing should be good, playing in the English Championship for Sheffield United.
Scott Chipperfield plays in the Swiss Super League for Basel, currently in their UEFA Champions League campaign
Luke Wilkshire should also be good on the other side, he plays his club football in Russia.
It will be great to see the likes of Scott McDonald who has been in great form with Celtic and Josh Kennedy who can put on really good performances.
Bresciano, Grella and Kewell are three really big losses, they are three of the biggest names on our roster at the moment.
I think there could be a spot on the bench for Beauchamp, maybe he could come if the likes of Moore or Chipperfield get tired down back but i think that he may be carrying that injury from the Champions League match against Manchested United.
I would also like to see Richard Garcia get some game time but i dont think Verbeek named him at all for this one.
I would like to see the side look like this:
STARTING LINE-UP 1. Mark Schwarzer (goalkeeper) 2. Brett Emerton (attacking right defender) 3. Lucas Neill (central defender) 4. Craig Moore (central defender) 5. Scott Chipperfield (attacking left defender/push into midfield) 6. Jason Culina (slightly defensive midfielder) 7. Luke Wilkshire (right wing midfield) 8. David Carney (left wing midfield) 9. Tim Cahill (attacking midfielder/possible third stike option late on) 10. Scott McDonald (right striker) 11. Joshua Kennedy (left striker)
SUBSTITUTES 12. Eugine Galekovic (goalkeeper, he has really shown some form for Adelaide United in the A-League and in the AFC Champions League) 13. Michael Beauchamp (central defender, if fit) 14. Chris Coyne (defender) 15. Jacob Burns (midfielder) 16. Mile Sterjovski (attacking midfielder/striker) 17. Bruce Djite (striker) 18. Brett Holman (striker)
Should be a great game this one, does anyone know why they changed Suncorp Stadium to 'Brisbane Stadium' for this one?
cheers, smurf

Why is everyone putting Emerton at fullback and Wilkshire in the Midfield? I really think their combination on the right has blossomed in recent games, coinciding with their swap from the above setup.

Yeah, It's just about a 6-3-1..... at home..... to Qatar.... I was talking about people's 4-4-2 formations anyway, with Emerton at fullback and Wilko on the wing.

I can't remember that, though I do remember a back 3 with wingbacks. To be honest though, given the circ umstances I would be surprised to see anything but a back 4.

i reckon fozzie and les have picked a pretty likely lineup on world game site
wilkshire----moore---neill----chipperfield ----------culina----------burns------------ emerton--------cahill------------holman -----------------kennedy------------------
personally i'd be much happier with carney in for holman but pim does seem to like holman and did shoot off that warning to carney bout not getting enough game time at sheffield. i suspect pim will start with this and only swap to a kennedy-mcdonald 4-4-2 if we dont look like scoring (or get behind). coyne vs moore must be a bit of a toss up, coyne has been pretty impressive in the last couple of games but moores got the experience and quality. i reckon qatar might be a bit more tricky than the last couple of times with a new coach and decent form but still we should win

They are all must win games mate. We cannot be satisfied with a draw, especially at home. These chances only come twice every decade, we can't afford to fu ck things up.

Exactly. All the home games are must win, especially against the "weaker" opposition in the group.

Arguably, this match is more important than th Uzbek match. A win against Qatar and Bahrain, and we are nearly there.
Cahills return should be interesting, but Australia has shown quite effectively, it knows how to play without him so I expect much of our potency will come down the flanks, searching for the giant that is Kennedy.
I'm a little perturbed about Moore playing, not because I doubt his ability, but because I think its important in these qualifiers that we develop the synergy in the back line for the real thing - assuming we make it - and I doubt more will be around then.
And, against popular opinion I'm sure, I would be glad to see Holman playing. He always looks dangerous, and his speed is a great asset. I get the feeling that one of these days, he'll score a brace for Australia and repay all the faith that has been put in him

at home against one of the weaker teams in the group is must-win. hell, at home to japan is a must-win as well. the only way you can be satisfied with a draw is if we're 2-0 down 85 minutes into the match.

What, you think it's unreasonable for Australia to score 3 goals in 5 minutes (plus stoppage!)?! Oh ye of little faith lol!
