http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,24459499-10389,00.htmlANBERRA Raiders utility Terry Campese is the shock inclusion in the Australian squad for this month's Rugby League World Cup. Campese, nephew of former rugby union great David Campese, finished the NRL season in tremendous form but was rated an outsider for the Cup squad. The 24-man squad, featuring seven debutants – Campese, Anthony Laffranchi, Joel Monaghan, Josh Perry, David Williams, Glenn Stewart and Anthony Watmough, will assemble on October 18 and begin its World Cup defence . Ten nations will compete in the 2008 Rugby League World Cups 18 matches between October 25 and November 22 with the f inal at Brisbanes Suncorp Stadium. Premiers Manly were rewarded with six inclusions – Brent Kite, Perry, Brett and Glenn Stewart, Watmough and Williams. Brisbane's Darren Lockyer will captain the Australians. The squad: Terry Campese (Canberra Raiders), Petero Civoniceva (Penrith Panthers), Michael Crocker (Melbourne Storm), Craig Fitzgibbon (Sydney Roosters), Israel Folau (Melbourne Storm), Paul Gallen (Cronulla Sharks), Kurt Gidley (Newcastle Knights), Justin Hodges (Brisbane Broncos), Greg Inglis (Melbourne Storm), Brent Kite (Manly Sea Eagles) Anthony Laffranchi (Gold Coast Titans), Darren Lockyer (capt, Brisbane Broncos), Joel Monaghan (Canberra Raiders), Josh Perry (Manly Sea Eagles), Steve Price (NZ Warriors), Scott Prince (Gold Coast Titans), Billy Slater (Melbourne Storm), Cameron Smith (Melbourne Storm), Brett Stewart (Manly Sea Eagles), Glenn Stewart (Manly Sea Eagles), Brent Tate (NZ Warriors), Johnathan Thurston (Cowboys), Anthony Watmough (Manly Sea Eagles), David Williams (Manly Sea Eagles).

From that I think the team would be
1. Billy Slater/Brett Stewart 2. David Williams 3. Justin Hodges 4. Greg Inglis 5. Israel Folau 6. Darren Lockyer (c) 7. Johnathan Thurston 8. Steve Price 9. Cam Smith 10. Petro Civonceiva 11. Anthony Laffranchi 12. Paul Gallen 13. Glenn Stewart
14. Kurt Gidley 15. Brent Kite 16. Michael Crocker 17. Anthony Watmough
Big Fight will be between Slater and Stewart for the FB spot, I think the rest of the team will be pretty much like what I've just listed, at least initially.

Great to see a good Manly contingent! Didn't expect to see the wolfman get the nod.

Spot on Scotty, I agree 100% with that lineup. I may be biased, I think Billy should get the nod, not taking anything away from Stewart. Both deserve the spot.

I think Williams is a good selection, tate is in the squad as well but I think Williams will be given first opportunity.

Pretty good squad overall, other than Campese making it and Hunt missing out I think it's what most people expected.
