Does anyone enjoy referencing assignments?

So often, I think I'm at the end of an assignment, and it makes me happy. I so often find myself saying, good, now all I've got to do is the in text references and the reference list. But the problem is, that winds up taking more time than it took writing the 3000 words.

I hate it. By the way, kiddies at school, be aware that uni is very stringent when it comes to referencing so try to learn how to do it...I didn't learn before uni Doubt ...two years in and I'm better, but it still gives me the *****s.

I believe the principle should be adopted of, what's mine is yours...in that sense, everything ever written is everyone's. Problem solved. Instant genius status for everybody and nothing would ever be referenced as you have claim to everything. Stuff intellectual property rights. They are a load of bollocks. No one appreciates you writing something complicated Dr Wang Jang...but boy, they'd love it if you were cool and let people use "your" work without mentioning your name and the year that you finally finished writing this excruciating piece of work. In all seriousness, people do good work, which I can't do, but let's see them have their cake, but we can eat it too. You know something's aray when completing the referencing is more painful then reading about the cotemporary application of media in liberal democracies 21st century, or reading about the financialization, finance rationality and the role of the media.

Anyway, this has come to the forefront of my mind as I have finished an assignment...Very Happy Very Happy

Only the references to go

Sad

Edit: By the way, does anyone know how to in text reference a dictionary (no author), using the harvard method?

I'm lucky, I'm doing Law and we use the Australian Guide to Legal Citation, great book, everything you need to know about referencing and it's the same across all my law subjects.

Cammo referencing is probably my biggest hate at uni. We use the APA system generally which I think is similar to the Harvard way. Not sure what you do to reference a dictionary though

use endnote - it automatically does the reference list for you.

takes a bit of time to set up (adding all the books etc...) but you can choose what format you want the references in, and it will automatically do it.

also, referencing as you go (if you dont want to use endnote) is a lot easier and quicker

Endnote would be the way to go, but if you are doing all your research online (as many people do these days) have a look at a program called Zotero ... I think it's open-source and shareware, and is an excellent on-line reference manager.
