The thing that does amuse me somewhat tho' is that pretty much ever Cleveland fan I know refuses to acknowledge that LeBron could well be outward-bound in 2010. Talk about blinders...

Deep down those 'fans' don't really care. 75% of Cleveland 'fans' will quite happily trade their jersey in for a new york jersey (or wherever he signs) the moment LBJ leaves Cleveland

I think we are all going overboard with this brand signing for philly, i honestly can't see them in the top 4, you have young and RAW talent like the hawks and then you have a Superstar that just came back from a serious injury....it just doesn't formulate, its not like amare...his not gonna be as explosive (well he never was THAT explosive) but his post game will suffer, he will obviously rely on his jumper way too much..add to the fact, philly were only a 37 and 45 team last season, and they have this so called POTENTIALLY uberstar named igoudala who hasnt produced anything close to say even LAMAR ODOM!...not much of a franchise player is he, i doubt theyll get above 50 if they do kudos to them....

Oh ok, never mind that he came back at the end of last season and although he wasn't 100% he showed that he was well on his way. Another few months out of the game can only help his rehab. I think that he'll be fine
As for Philly..can you even name their starting power forward from last season? I sure can't. That was their biggest need last year and by getting one of the best in the league, I think it's fairly safe to say that they have covered it well. Sure, they lost Korver in the process but I think the addition of Brand far outweighs that loss. Iguodala is better suited to playing second fiddle to someone else so Brand's addition will help. Not his stats but his play. They got a great distributor and two guys in the post who actually play defense. And if Thaddeus Young can improve and become a regular starter, then you got a team which should easily make the top 4 in the east. I know that you'll come up with reasons why Miami will be there instead. Philly improved far more in the offseason than any other contending team in the East so to expect a spike in their win total is quite reasonable

AS you have said, Elton Brand was not an explosive player. He never was and even he will acknowledge that. He is a big guy but he knows how to use his size. Sure it might not be high flying or anything like that, but it is very hard to stop. His post game should be fine because he is not trying to out-jump or blow past his opponent. He is a beast and will over-power you and has the mid-range game down pat. He is more Charles Barkley than Amare Stoudemire.

You don't have a career average of 20/10 if you are solely relying on your athleticism. His injury was an Achilles tendon and unless youre Grant Hill or Shaun Livingston, I doubt this will see a regress in the play of Elton Brand.

As for Philly, Andre Miller is far from raw and you will find that he is a large part of the reason they finished the season so well. The guy knows the game. Samuel Dalembert is much more of a force in the middle that people give him credit for. Philly definately have more things going for them than the Hawks.

By the way, Philly were 40-42 last season and considering they were 12 games under .500 in Feburary, that is a hell of a run to finish the season.

Sorry guys I'm with Shigster on this.
I can't see Philly getting 50 wins this season, which should be cut-off for top 4.
Though with improvement can be a contender in 09/10

LeBron breaks his leg in the first game and cant play ever again. Then the city of Cleveland becomes broke and loses all its tourism and the Cavs get relocated to a better city.

If that's true, it's pretty sad indeed.

On Philly/Cleveland...
Cleveland didn't get 50 wins last year, and will be worse this year due to a reliance on an aging front-court... And Elton Brand and the Andre x2s are anything but 'raw'. Hell, even Sam Dalembert doesn't qualify as that (raw).

I find it poignant that there are stating that Cleveland will win the East (an increase of around 20 games), and in the same breath state that Philly won't win 50 (+8 ).
If they do win 45-50... in the East... that probably sees them finish 3-4.
Cavs will not win 50.

I am willing to make a bet ($$) with you that Cleveland WILL win 50 games. You name the price, anything up to a couple hundred dollars if your keen.

I'll bet you a six-pack of decent beer that Philly win more games than Cleveland.

Your lack of confidence humours me.

But I will take you on that bet. But at least make it a carton, a six-pack barely gets me going!

Your lack of native wit amuses me.
Pray tell, how much do you think sending a sixpack of decent beers will cost you?

Let's make it more about what you have stated, given you're the one who seems to be so adamant...

I'm willing to put my a.ss on the line now and say Cleveland will finish 2nd in the East this season.
Criticism is welcome...

Ok then, here's the bet - given you're putting your ass on the line. You say they'll finish top 2. I say they won't.

six-pack costs about $20, depending on beer
pay-pal, bank dep, wire transfer, money order.

Where did I say you send me money for a sixpack?
Where did I say generic beer ($20? Pfft...).

I said, send me a six-pack of decent beer...

Now your changing bets...Originally it was that Philly was going to finish ahead of the Cavs, now its that they must finish top 2.
I'm happy with the original bet thanks, since you were so confident about that.
