Basketball Hall of Fame Inductees for 2008 - On tomorrow.
Patrick Ewing
Hakeen Olajuwon
Pat Riley
Andrian Dantley
William Davidson
***** Vitale
Cathy Rush

Ewing & Olajuwon are 2 of the all time greats. The fact they have been inducted the first year they were eligable says a lot about the impact these two had on the game. Both are great men both on & off the court. They are greats of their respective teams (Knicks & Rockets) and remained loyal to thier franchises for the majority of their careers. They have both revolutionised the way the game is played, especially defense. Modern day players like Carmelo & Curry could learn a thing of these in regards to the importance of D

But who was better?

I never saw much of them when they were in their prime (mid 90's) so cannot have much of a educated opinion.
If I had to choose one for my team, I would probably take Olajuwon. The guy was an absolute brick in defense, but still could outmove most big men in attack.

Hakeem "The Dream" for me. Two titles to none plus we beat the Knicks in the 1993-94 series, even though it was 7 games but nevertheless. And 1994-95 we beat the Shaq lead Orlando Magic and Hakeem gave Shaq a Basketball lesson.

Just try telling that to the 400,000 kids Ewing has fathered over the years. And that little pesky prostitution ring he was involved with......haha

But I agree, both were awesome players and were consistantly the best Centers in the game for 10+ years. You dont see many Centers getting 20/10 nowadays, but both Ewing and Dream did it for over 10 seasons. Thats incredible.

I don't want to compare either and say one was better because it is a slight on both players. Yes, I realise that this is a discussion thread blah blah blah but I have drawn my line in the sand.

I am noticing not much love for EWing. Watching Ewing and the Knicks MSG was a sight to behold. Great atmosphere and I hated the Knicks back then. Dream was awesome but you just gotta love the rivalries the Knicks had with the Bulls, Pacers and Heat. Ewing was always the Center-piece for those games.

Hakeem the Dream for mine ... was a big game player - seemed to always stand up and outpoint some very big names (Shaq, David Robinson, Ewing etc).

Hard to beat his grace, timing and footwork in the paint as well

I second that notion. Nowadays its all about "Oh I can score on you therefore I'm more awesome. "
Now it's Ego b.s.........

Ewing and Dream competed hard against eachother to get their team to win not to brag about which one is better. That's one thing I really do miss about back then. It was less about 'me' and more about whoever wins.

Not only that but they were massive rivals during college as well.
Nowadays a 'rivalry' is when one player comes out and raps about another, asking him "tell me how my ***** tastes"
