looking forward to the clash between the legends winger and the warlords fullback..... I reckon the warlords fullback might just be in awe and might forget to tackle him.

Welcome to Belmore Sports Ground for this trial match between a Legends invitational team and the Inner Sydney Warlords. A few of the local schools have given permission for their students to attend the afternoon’s game and the Terry Lamb Family Hill is a hive of activity. Haven’t seen that for many a year. Unfortunately, the caterers have not been informed, hence the canteens are all closed. Never one to miss an opportunity, the local old Greek lady has arrived with her wicker basket, selling stale lollies, candy and packets of nuts to the school kids. I can also hear an ice cream truck siren approaching, so at least we’ll have something to snack on. Breeze should favour the Warlords in the first half, although it is up and down like a yo-yo.

Hartley looks at both his touchies for the OK. He looks strange in that fluorescent referees garb, used to seeing him in the all-whites. He puts the whistle to the lips and blows time-on for kick-off.
Terry Wrist kicks it high and long, but a sudden gust of wind has taken way too long. The ball sails over the concourse and onto the railway tracks at the Northern end of the ground. Bad way to start the game. Wrist hangs his head, with Lamb giving him a bit of a gobful. The new generation is not used to these suburban grounds with all their nuances.
Penalty to the Legends on half way. Langmack has the ball on half way, Sterling is walking up to take the kick for touch, but Langmack, being the smart-ar$e that he is, takes the quick tap and catches the Warlords napping. He’s chopped down 35m by RickDragon and loc dwn. Warlords on the back-foot, they are scrambling to get back and set their line. Tunks and Bella take hit-ups and they are enjoying the 10m rule immensely. Sterling picks up Price, who offloads to Cronin and they are just shy of the 10m line on tackle 4, great tackle by Gasnier=Dragons4Life. Brown sees the Warlords are short down the right, so he runs down the blind side, draws in The Myth but throws a shocking pass out to Eric Grothe around the bootlaces and the arthritic joints prevent him from getting a clean grab at the ball. Knock-on, scrum feed to the Warlords.
Wrist feeds the scrum, but a massive push by the Legends sees them win the tight head, Sterling picks it up and scoots to the left, and as the cover defence comes across in the form of jim57, he pops up a pass to the omnipresent Terry “Baa Baa” Lamb, who goes over adjacent to the posts. Try to the Legends, with a kick to come. Ricky Walford lines up and with his traditional “toe-bash” style, he punts the ball over the black dot and onto Mr Poulos’ brown Valliant in the drive-way. 6-0 to the Legends after only 3 minutes of play. The Warlords were caught off-guard by some old school tactics. Their captain, Tim Mander is laying down the law as they trudge back to the half-way line.
Wrist, whose being mercilessly sledged by Lamb (he’s nicknamed him “limp”), this time gives the ball a bit less air and it comes down on the 10m line and taken by Sterling, who gives it off to Bella who charges into the Warlords defence. Uneventful set of 6, with one off the ruck runs. Solid tackling by GoTheDogs89, legendss and Mander who is setting a great example for the team. Kick by Sterling on the last and walford takes the ball 25m out from his own line and is tackled about 35m by Langmack and Price. Dell takes a run from dummy half and pushes past a soft attempted tackle by Ella, and is brought down 5m into Legends territory. Quick play the ball, Mander out to Wrist, who feeds it out to Trent AussieForever, who in turn finds a rampaging loc dwn, bounces off Wynn and Cronin and gets the pass away to a flying walford, who charges for the corner but is bundled into touch 5m from the line by his indigenous namesake, Ricky. Great play there by the Warlords and equally great cover defence. 10 minutes gone, still 6-0 to the Legends.

Another solid set by the Legends. Brown is probing out of dummy half finding willing runners in Tunks, Price and Bella. Pinpoint kicking by Sterling highlights the fact that although he has lost his hair,he hasn't lost his touch with the boot. Legends persisting with kicking to The Myths wing. Whether that is a ploy to give Dell less of the ball or a perceived weakness in The Myths game is not clear yet. Myth however has yet to show any sign of problems, bringing the ball back from the kick by Sterling with a decent run and is tackled 38m out from their line by Brown and Wynn. Quick play the ball sees Dell coming in to take a run from dummy half given that hes seen hardly any ball and again he pushes off some feeble attempted tackles, making it into Legends territory where hes grassed by that man again, Ray Price,Legends are having trouble containing Dell and are on the back foot. Mander decides to scoot from acting half, hes found some space in behind the ruck, dragged down by Brown after slipping the ball back on the inside to a flying walford, who draws Jack to him and sets up El Diablo, who strolls over the line and plants the ball under the sticks.6-4 Legends a the 18m mark. walford with the converison makes no mistake and we have a tied ball game.
