Football World Cup for me, followed by the Olympics

The Masters and the Australian Open (Tennis) would be up there for me as well, alongside Origin. Maybe not in terms of "greatness", but definitely the events I look forward to the most.

The Olympics is easily
daylight is 2nd

this is for myself & most Australians of course
the Soccer world cup a bigger event through its veiwing audience but would pale into insignificance against the Olympics here ...

the TV Audience for the opening ceremony in Australia with Regionals was apparently about 10 million !
the Soccer world cup final.... with Australia in it .....wouldn't get near that.

The World Cup is by FAR the World's biggest sporting event, without a question. No sport captivates a nation likes football does, look no further than Australia in Germany 2006. The whole nation was right behind us and 3 million people tuned in to see the game vs Italy, far more the the Olympics. Don't get me wrong The Olympics are second only to the World Cup but the overall quality of the games with sports like Equestrian and Synchronized Swimming really take away from the Olympics. With the World Cup, even countries who are not in the World Cup still find it far more enjoyable to watch than their own nation at the Olympics.
