Lemme guess: Celtics fan? If wasn't obvious before, painfully so now. Sorry - we're talking 'individuals' here. Dirk's an MVP. Let's open it up - building a team, who do you pick folks? Dirk, or Pierce?

Pierce in a heart beat. Especially if its a playground team. Dirk has range for a 7 footer. Thats it.

lol...a Jazz fan actually Dirks an MVP sure...who went missing int he playoffs when he needed them most whereas PP led his team in the playoffs....he was the one who stepped up and guarded LeBron in that series...and he was the single best player in the series against Kobe and the Lakers on the biggest stage in the world and (unlike your boy Dirk) has the ring to back it up. anyway..i'd be interested in other opinions as well...

I'm with Stroker and Razer, if building a team for NEXT YEAR, i'd take Pierce... Dirks past his prime. His performance against the Hornets in the playoffs was disappointing. You would want your best players to stand up when it counts. Pierce did, Nowitski didn't, and never has

Ummm... irregardless of the MVP, Ray Allen was the best player of the NBA Finals. Pierce was simply more emotional.

Stroker... did you even watch the Finals? I don't mean that as a flame, it's just that it's pretty apparent you didn't... and are simply responding on 'gut reaction'. Irregardless

Of course I watched the finals. And it is apparent I did as that I can clearly state, with full confidence, that Ray Allen was the 3rd best player on that Celtics team during the NBA Finals. And I was under the impression that irregardless was not a word as it would have the same meaning as regardless...

Pierce at the moment is better than Dirk.

People forget that Paul Pierce led an otherwise awful Boston team to the East Finals in 2001/02 and made the playoffs the next two seasons.
Is a noted big-game player.
What hurts Pierce is that there are a bevy of equally talented swingmen in the league, whereas Dirk is very unique as a big man with those skills. A 7-footer like Dirk will put a team on the map, but it takes a Pierce to get them over the hump.
If I'm building a team from scratch, I'd probably take Dirk ... and also Amare, Brand, Oden, Gasol, Jefferson ... before taking Pierce
But by the same token, few can measure up to Pierce in the clutch
Pierce = Dirk
Stupid comments btw ... but the only people that care are forumites like us

In their entirety - and you think Ray Allen was the 3rd best player? I guess some people might find themselves thinking that, but I feel that perhaps they're getting caught up in KG bellowing, and Paul Pierce's histrionics. winnaz wrote: man you obviously didnt watch the finals it looks like.. allen had what maybe 2 good games in the finals? after pierce KG was second best.. and what does this matter anyway? And you sir, are clueless. Or you're buying far, far too much into the emotional hype surrounding Pierce's finals. It would seem that a few of you have bought into the hype of Paul Pierce's finals. Did you guys cry too when he went off in a wheelchair? I kid, I kid... kinda. I guess you are remembering Ray Allen's struggles of the lead-up to the Finals too... because Allen was good. Every night. There were nights in the finals where Paul Pierce wasn't as good as Ray. And one night in particular where ol' Pauly may as well not turned up. And KG? KG was good on D, but on the offensive side of things often went MIA after the first half. Game 1, all 3 were on fire - and Rondo as well. Game 2, all 3 were good, Pierce was better... but Leon Powe was best. Game 3, Pierce didn't show up to play, and Ray Allen was clearly the best for the Celtics. By a long way. Game 4, it was a wash between Pierce & Allen. Game 5, Pierce had a blinder... he was fantastic that game, but Ray played pretty well. Game 6, Ray Allen was the best player for the C's, but the game will be remembered for the blow-out, and KG's emphatic dunk. Allen didn't have the game that Pierce did in game 5, but he showed up every game. There was one game where Pierce was the best player on the court, and to be fair, he was the best by quite a long way. But 1 game Pierce was a no-show. For me, and for a helluva lot of other people, Ray Allen played the most complete finals of any Celtic. But Pierce was the emotional leader. And, still some folks who like what Dirk does.

Consistancy for the whole series, Ray Ray was there for every game. EVERY GAME. He might not have been wheeled out in a wheelchair but he definately showed up. I like how everyone congratulates PIerce's D on Lebron as well. Kinda helps when Lebron is triple-teamed and his teammates are shriviling up like nuts in Antartica.
