i have also 1 unit...what have to do? thats a good team. use the 1 unit as you call it to upgrade your goalie. and change laursen to a chelsea defender if possible to have a big 4 backline.

Thanks. Looks good apart from Bent. Possibly a bit risky. Definitely not gauranteed to start, but has been in amazing pre-season form. And upgrade Neville for a Big 4 defender if you have any available cap. Other than that great. i think Almunia is definitely the Gk to have. And you have a very strong midfield.

No your not lying, but that doesn't mean he will score more points... I am a VILLA supporter and I think people maybe overreading young's role this year, there are some blanks to be filled in yet as Martin is talking about 5 more signings.. I just don't think Young is going to be the value everyone seems to be expecting, but hey we are all having a calculated guess aren't we?

Many thanks Welcome to Sportal and our ever increasing FPL thread!!! I would rethink having Woodgate, Johnson, Finnan, Brown, Babel and Drogba in your team. Spurs are notoriously leaky at back, this could change, but might be safer to start with someone else and buy into form. Finnan is unlikely to start at Pool, if he gets sold you could re-evaluate... Brown should start, but Neville could take his spot. Man U have a hard start and miss GW3 so maybe wait for a few weeks. Johnson - will be a good buy, but after at least gw4 or even 6. Portsmouth have a really hard start!!!! Check the fixtures. Drogba, maybe out for a few GW's and if he is still sulking might be better value elsewhere. Just a bit of food for thought Cheers

carew or ashton???
both seem like they are going to have a good season.
i had carew before, but i think ashton had an injury last year so i might go for him and it also free's up a point.

van der saar, almunia, reina, cech or james? hi all. first post. jakall, 1)carvalho gets more bonus points, but alex might replace him in CL weeks imo. a.cole gets more minutes than any other chelsea defender, and supposed to have a more offensive year, already scored one in pre-season. carvalho is the better of two, but my choice would be ashley cole this year. 2)cech or reina would be the best pick. used to cost 6.5 each. two of the best defensive teams of the year. james got a price pump, and not an easy start for pompey. not sure about almunia, arsenal concede more than the other top 3, but have an easier start. also not sure about van der saar, he is missing w3 and man u doesn't start with the strongest squad.

Still sticking with the following team:
Renia (Schwarzer) P.Neville, Gallas, Knight (Dawson, Melchiot) Fabregas, Modric, Petrov, Young (Pienaar) Adebayor, Yakubu, Windass
Very happy with it apart from my defenders but I would rather sacrifice money there than elsewhere.

Thats interesting as I have placed more emphasis on having defenders who can kick goals as they get you more points. I have tried to go for a balance throughout the side rather than have one line stronger than another.

My logic for the defense like that is so that I can rotate them. I still think those defenders will get a lot of clean sheets but I'll be rotating them in and out rather than just sticking with a Big Four Backline which most people seem to be doing. Defenders who score definitely get a lot of points but even so, goals from the back are rare (unless it's Lescott! ) players like Fabregas and Adebayor were consistently getting 10+ in several games in a row last year, occassionally dropping back to a score of 2 or 3 before popping back up there. I am not going to rely on any team's defender to get me 6 points every week let alone 12 or anything more than that. My backline consists of players from Everton, Villa, Tottenham, Arsenal and Wigan. All except for Wigan - I expect will keep quite a number of clean sheets. Don't knock me saying that the Spurs will keep clean sheets... I'm waiting for them to sign a big name to join their back four My other problem with big four defenders is that there are few players who are certain to play week in, week out. Chelsea and Liverpool for example - you can't tell me you know exactly who is going to start, only that Carragher and Terry will definitely be in there each week. I think it's a risk that might come back to bite a lot of people when two of their "main" defenders don't start in week 1. We'll see though, I'm no psychic! One last point - let's not forget that the league doesn't start for over a week and there could be numerous trades still to come.
