Just after the Origin decider is the 3 week Tour de France.
Team Discovery has been disbanded so Alberto Contador and Levi Leipheimer (1st & 3rd in '07) joined Astana which aren't even invited to this years tour.
Thats right, Cadel is favourite!! Go Cadel, Go McEwen, GO SILENCE LOTTO!!

Michael Rogers has a genuine chance for the yellow jersey as well. O'Grady is in fine form. It'll be a good year for Aussies.

disapointing that contador won't be there to defend his yellow jersey, but if cadel gets it, I won't be complaining!! Cadel a very short prices $3 favourite on sportingbet (http://www.sportingbet.com.au/uipub/sport.aspx?l1id=30&l2id=826810&l3id=826811&l4id=826812) As a result, there is a HUGE weight of pressure on Cadel's shoulders, hopefully he will not be overawed. And who's up for an aussie 1-2 finish???

It will all depend on how the domestiques ride for cadel. Silence-Lotto have recruited Yaroslav Popovich (formerly of Discovery and American Post) but have lost Chris Horner who rode brilliantly on last year's tour. Dario Cioni may also be key to Cadel's chances. For High Road, they've recruited George Hicapie, who was also instrumental to Lance, to help out Micky Rogers. Also, with Gerdemann and Kim Kirchen both doing well last year, it looks as if Rogers will have people to ride with in the Mountains. As we all know, Contador is not there, but neither is Levi Leipheimer, meaning that Cadel or Mick might also win stages (on the time trials) as well as overall honours. Other contenders for overall honours include Sastre (CSC), Menchov (RAB), Schlek (CSC) and Valverde (GCE). In terms of the Green jersey, it'll be the regulars who will be after it, BAR Tom Boonen, who has been banned after testing positive for cocaine. Also, no Petacchi, and it'll be interesting to watch how Silence-Lotto manages McEwen. Thor Hushovd should be a strong contender, providing that he can get over the mountains. I'm looking forward to it

Michael Rogers looked good last year until his early exit (was a mile in front of the pack when he fell) he has a strong team does anyone Know if he is the team leader?
Cadel Evans probably should of won last year (just my opinion) he tried to take off from the front of the pack in one of the mountain stages last year and compounded to finish over a minute behind the winner who happened to be Alberto Contador who picked the bonus aswell, Popovich will be a great asset for Cadel.
Robbie McEwen never really recovered last year after that fall be good to see back at his best Has been the dominant sprinter over the past few years another green jersey for the scarlet pimpernel.
Great year for Aussies
Cadel Evans-Michael Rogers= Quinella for the Yellow jersey!!!!!!!!!
Robbie McEwen= Green jersey by a long way

Rogers had Glandual fever and isn't expected to do that well for the overall, but will surprise and do alright, but has had a very interupted year, as you could imagine. So i would save your money.

Actually it has just been annouced that Micheal Rogers is not going to ride the tour as he hasn't recovered enough from his illness.

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news.php?id=news/2008/jun08/jun18newsdon't know who is leading the team. Linus Gerdemann is also out with a dodgy knee.

McEwen has acknowledged that Lotto are dedicated to Evans this year, which is great for Cadel, not so good for Robbie. But Robbie being the superstar that he is should still manage a stage win or two. Not so sure about the green jersey.

I am not a huge Cycling fan but i love the Tour De France, i have nothing but respect for all of the riders. Any way im looking to have a few bets on it this year. Any thoughts on some winners and maybe a little value.
Yellow - Evans (2/1) or im a big fan of Sastre, any value at 10/1
Green - Any value for Baden Cooke at 100/1 or Mark Cavandish at 15/1
KOM - Sastre as an outsider maybe or ???
Thoughts??? ho would u have your money on

well if cadel is at 2/1, then i'd stay away. Too much can go wrong and there are too many others who could beat him, for him to be paying that. Sastre looks alright at 10/1 IMO EDIT! http://sportingbet.com.au/uipub/sport.aspx?l1id=30&l2id=826810&l3id=826811&l4id=826812here has cadel listed at $3 and sastre at $15, what is your source? also, popovych at $36 might be worth looking at a few bucks?

not sure, more of a feeling. Did quite well last year (8th). In Evans' team though, which is the obvious drawback. But if anything happens to Cadel, then yaroslav will have a great chance i reckon, with quite a strong team around him.

nah, popovych will be busting his balls for cadel and will end up finishing lower down the order because of it.
btw, hincapie was named the leader of Team High Road (Team Columbia) and cavendish at 15/1 isn't a bad bet, considering that they've gone for a team with strong lead out men and sprinters, rather than to win the tour overall.

well my favourite Cycling event has come around so I thought I might join the fun in this section.
I really want Evans to do well after his excellent showing last year. I hope the Aussies can stay on their bikes this time around. I think almost all of them fell off last year. If they do I can see Evans winning and McEwen winning a few stages and being in the top three for the green.

There are nine Aussies this year
Baden Cooke (Aus) Adam Hansen (Aus) Simon Gerrans (Aus) Mark Renshaw (Aus) Stuart O'Grady (Aus) Trent Lowe (Aus) Brett Lancaster (Aus) Cadel Evans (Aus) Robbie McEwen (Aus)
There should be a stage win or two amongst them!
