Okay its not easy, but compared with other sports:
You don't really have an opposition. You are playing against yourself, and the course. Your game is not necessarily affected by your opponents (most of the time you aren't even aware of what they're doing).
It requires no fitness. Little strength. Not much hand-eye coordination.
You can play until you are 100.

its probably the hardest game to get very good at, theres 100's of factors that effect a round which is what makes it fun to play
edit: also it does require strength not necessarily fitness but you can see the players in their 20's who are having increasing success such as Adam Scott, Anthony Kim, Luke Donald and Henrick Stenson are all very fit and very strong and can all pound it down the fairway which gives them a big advantage..

Nope, have to disagree. I've had a go at a number of sports - football, cricket, tennis, squash, ten pin even lawn bowls - and golf is by far the hardest. Your opponent is the trees, bunker, sand traps, the rough and whatever else you can hit the ball in. It is true that it is not a physically demanding as other sports, but it does take a motza of technique, patience and brainpower.
Personally, out of all the sports I've aforementioned, I reckon it will be a tie between golf and football for the funnest. And at the end of a day, you can say that one sport is boring, or not really demanding, or doesn't really count because you are not playing anyone, but if you have fun playing it, that's all that counts.

Sorry Bro, you are wrong on so many levels. If you dont count yourself as opposition when palying a social game, then you might as well just go home. Its all about beating your last score for those of us who take it seriously (your not one of us, but thats ok as long as people have fun). And if you play comp on weekends, there are hundreds of players all playing for prizes and bragging rights at the 19th. As someone has mentioned, there are thousands of obsticals on the course that need to be avoided. It does require a certain degree of strength but timing is what gets the ball down the fairway. To have good timing requires perfect hand eye coordination. Why do you think so many people find it hard to play? Sure, even my wife can hit a ball, thats not the object of the game. The objective is to hit it where you ar aiming. Every sport that requires hitting or kicking a ball (Cricket, tennis, hockey, soccer etc) all require good hand eye coordination and if you dont have it, you dont have it. Playing into old age is one of the beauties of the game. Provided you avoid spinal problems, its a no inpact sport so playing into your 80's and 90's is quite possible.

disagree hugely, to be a professional golf you have to be so strong technically and mentally, you got to know what shot to hit when and do it consistantly for 18 holes while versuing 150 others in a tournament. very hard sport

All about beating your last score? My point exactly, the opposition doesn't affect your game. They are almost irrelevant. You are playing against yourself and the course. No other decent sport in the world does this. It does require a certain degree of strengthIn Summary, it requires minimal strength its a no inpact sport so playing into your 80's and 90's is quite possible.[/ What sport which has a "high skill level" would you be able to play into your 80's and 90's? None, because if you can do so - the skill level isn't high. I think you won my argument. Anyone who is any good at a sport which requires hand-eye are good at golf (Pete Sampras, Ponting, league players, rugby players, AFL players, soccer players, etc). How many golfers are good at other sports? None, because they don't have great hand-eye coordination. I love the game but is nowhere near one of the hardest games to become good at.

This is probably the best way to put it. But... Champion_man said: All about beating your last score? My point exactly, the opposition doesn't affect your game. They are almost irrelevant. You are playing against yourself and the course. No other decent sport in the world does this. I say: I also said that if you play in comps on the weekends you are up against other players. Do you think the pros get rewarded for beating their last score?? No, they get rewarded for beating other players. The other situation I referred to on an individual basis was of you played a social round. Champion_man said: It does require a certain degree of strengthIn Summary, it requires minimal strength. I say: No, not minimal, a certain level. Im not 6'6" and built like a brick sh1t house, but I can tonk it past players that are. Champion_man said: its a no inpact sport so playing into your 80's and 90's is quite possible. What sport which has a "high skill level" would you be able to play into your 80's and 90's? None, because if you can do so - the skill level isn't high. I say: I didnt say people playing in there 80's and 90's are mixing it with Tiger, I just pointed out that with its little or no impact theres very little stopping you from playing. Unless you have a heart condition or need a hip replacement which in any case, you would not be playing any form of sport. Champion_man said: Anyone who is any good at a sport which requires hand-eye are good at golf Isay: I wonder why?? you won me that argument and its a contradiction to your other comment about it...not convinced?? Quote from Golftips.com "golf requires a high degree of hand-eye coordination" quote from isukatgolf.com "One thing that most better golfers have is great hand-eye coordination. Hand-eye coordination goes a long way in hitting a golf ball squarely and judging distances. Both critical to playing good golf." quote from thelordofgolf ""The golf swing requires a lot of hand eye coordination." For many people it is about over coming hand eye coordination. ..." Golfers dont have time to show off their skills in other sports. Champion_man said: I love the game but is nowhere near one of the hardest games to become good at. I say: Well we agree on something as I love it too but how good are you? what is good? I play off 10, am I good? Hardly. The pros, they are good but it takes hundreds of hours and tens of thousands of balls to be where they are. I think professional golfers spend more time practicing than "just about" any other sportsmen. That should be a guide to its difficulty.

Champion man you're a deadset muppet. Golf is one of the hardest games in the world, probably THE hardest! I think you're confusing the fact that it doesnt require physical fitness with skill... It requires a huge amont of physical and mental skill.

Golf is harder to play than AFL or soccer. At least you know where the football's going when you launch it.

Its medically proven that hand-eye is harder to master than foot-eye coordination. AFL requires both. Golf requires hand-eye but the ball you are hitting doesn't move, and the target you are aiming for doesn't move. Removing 2 key elements of hand-eye coordination. Thus it requires less skill.
