I don't think any of my sticks are the same brand - PING G5 driver, Sonartec 3 wood, Mizuno Fli-Hi Rescue, Bridgestone J33 Combo Irons, Cleveland Wedges and a Titleist Scotty Cameron/Odyssey 2-Ball

Firstly let me say that I have only been playing golf for about 2 months so I am not very good. My typical score would be +25 after a round of 18 holes.
I think the Callaway Fusion hybrid is a great club. It sounds so good. It is not as big as some other hybrids so may not be the most forgiving club but I dont have too much trouble hitting them straight & long.
Golf Australia Magazine did a review/test on several Hybrids & this was rated no. 1. It had the longest distance of the ones tested also. I bought this so I wouldnt need to buy a 3 or 5 wood. I just load up my driver off the tee & then hit the hybrid. I can easily hit this thing 200meters.
Not saying this is 100% better than others, I think its best to have a swing with a few of them and see which feels the best for you. I picked mine up brand new for $150 off a great Ebay business called MGGOLF. Also have a look at the King cobra baffler as I thought that was also a good one.

Depends on the price range - Taylor Made and Callaway have woods and hybrids that are very reasonably priced. Bridgestone is usually very affordable and make good quality stuff.

Thanks Hezzy111 - I feel like im really sh*t but I am pretty hard on myself considering I am a beginner. Got to go out and get some lessons and maybe improve a bit more.
I noticed your from sydney, which courses do you play?
I been playing canterbury golf course which is a nice easy 9 hole course with no bunkers & also had a few rounds at bexley and beverly park

I play up north - but I usually play around Sydney got mates everywhere so try to play comps all around Sydney, so anywhere from Killara, Monash and Pymble to Eastlake and St Micks (my favourite course in Sydney). Canterbury, Bexley and Beverley Park are all good courses for beginners. Should give Hurstville a go too. Get some lessons but more importantly focus on the short game. Thats where its easiest to save shots when your a beginner (getting out of bunkers in one, cutting down on 3 putts, getting up and down from beside the green more consistently).

I heard Hurstville is a little more difficult but I will certainly give it a go, i like to play different courses.
Yeah that is so true mate, I have spent heaps of hours at the driving range so I am pretty handy off the tee, but in and around the green i let myself down. I will definitely take your advice.
Mate regarding lessons, is there anyone you would recommend who is head and shoulders better than everyone else or would you say most pro's in the area are qualified to help me

At the moment any pro is qualified to help you. But once you play for a bit longer and have a more regular and consistent golf swing, you might need to look for a pro that suits you. And coach selection isn't easy you may prefer a technician thats really focussed on the mechanics and club position on the swing or you may prefer to have a pro just use what you swing with. It all depends on where you want to get to in the game I suppose. Do you have a playing goal you want to reach?

Alright no worries, I will start off with some lessons from my local Pro & see how that goes. I definitely need to learn the basics before I get stuck with bad habits. I strike the ball well, but I am not consistent. My goal is to turn pro & play golf for a living so I dont have to work I think thats more of a dream than a goal! haha Realistically though, I would be happy just to get to single digit handicap over the next few years.

I think that every golfer's dream haha.
Theres no need to overdo the lessons - just once a fortnight to start off with then once a month just as a check up so no bad habits are developed.
Not difficult to play off single digits if you hit the ball well and have distance. As long as you have some sort of a grasp of short game its all good.

i have been playing golf for about 12 years and have only really found everything that helps me hit the ball at my best in the past weeks. The most important things starting out are: - try and hit at a tempo of around 75-80% of your max swing. - make a full body rotation and you will have better contact - work at your shorter irons; 7 and down. - when putting work at it for 1-2 hours and that way you will grasp all the different aspects. - take your time between shots both in practice and on the course as that way you are likely to be composed over the ball.
i have found that this helps me shoot between 80-90 every time. and of course the more you practice the better you will get. expensive clubs don't guarantee good scores.
