I hear Joeys are strong this year as will be Kings and Shore.
Appreciate your thoughts......

Coming out of last season King's would be favourites with 4 1st VIII & 4 2nd VIII returning, albeit from somewhat weak crews. Shore has 5 2nd VIII, 4 1st IV and a strong junior eight bunch to pick from. Iggies have the nucleus of a good crew but may be weak at the back of the boat. Don't rate Joey's but anything's possible there. Scots have boys training through the winter and could be a dark horse for 3rd place and Grammar has a strong contingent of Junior VIII's moving up to the seniors. The underperformer this year will be Newington that has two weak years in their senior ranks.

Thx for that. Isn't there an agreement that boys dont train during winter ? If it is only Scots then it may be a good thing to see them competitive again - has been a long time.
Interesting that u think Kings will be the favourites as this years crew was off the pace.
Any Shore rowers out there who can shed some light on possible 1st VIII crew and how they think they will go. Yes, am showing my partiality !
cheers, MR

Scots boys have rowed out of Mosman. Plenty of boys train over winter with Sydney and Mosman.
Shore still in sculls but possible combo is Irving (2ndVIII), Frazer (2ndVIII), Beatty (1stIV), Blacklaw (2ndVIII), Jensen (4thIV), Macgregor (1stIV), Harris (2ndVIII), Playfair (2ndVIII). Tallest crew in some 5 years.

Last time was 1979 so that is 30 years ago.
I think this was the last time that a school other than Newington, Kings or Shore have won the MR trophy. I dont think the drought will be broken by Scots next year either.
Joeys and Riverview have gone very close a few times recently though unfortunately for them were pipped by one of these guys.
Look forward to getting some posts from the crews as to how their respective schools are training and their potential for the HOTR.
Cheers, MR

Shore 1st VIII at the moment.
S. Snelson (1st Junior) 7. Playfair (2nd VIII) 6. Blacklaw (2nd VIII) 5. Beattie (1st IV) 4. Macgregor (1st IV) 3. Torode (1st IV) 2. Elice-Flint (1st IV) B. Irving (2nd VIII)
What are other schools?

MR, this year's VIII had the ultimate X-factor in Nick Purnell and hence hard to say whether next year's will be as good. Their track record is pretty hot - the 1st IV was the fastest schoolboy IV ever, the Jnr VIII was the fastest ever, and the 2nd VIII clocked sub-6 mins at HOTR with only slight tailwind. We'll get a better idea in 18 days with the first hitout against Kings over 2000 at SIRC.

MR, they won't be as good as this years, but they would have to be the best crew on the water as i believe many of the other schools arent as strong this year eithor. Kings had 2 boys expelled the other day that were in their 1st VIII so that will hurt them badly. Newington are poor. Joeys may be fairly strong as they won the 1st Junior VIII in 2007. Iggies I believe have about 4 coming back, but they were pathetic this year and also had a pretty poor 1st Junior VIII. Shore looks to be on top at the beginning of the season. The higher crews are looking very strong but there is not as much depth as last season with their being no 3rd VIII atm. The 1st VIII are still looking very strong but we will see how the other schools will match up in a few weeks at the Loreto Regatta.

Thx lads,
Interesting to see if a school snaps up the Kings 1st VIII rowers that you say have been expelled. Unfortunately, this seems to happen more often these days.
Looking fwd to some solid racing this year on the water. Hopefully one of the schools can also claim the National title back from Scotch Victoria.

TKS update - 3 expelled toward end of T3, 2 invited back for T4, 1 possibly going to TSC. What has been lost in experience may be overcompensated for by better team morale.

What were they suspended for?
I heard that all potential Joeys 09 rugby 1sts/2nds players have to do rowing, is this true?
