It doesn't take more than a quick trawl though this forum to see that many Aussies have a pretty low opinion of Poms. Some are more specific, and say it's the English they (and so they say, the rest of the world) can't stand; others go for the British in general. What I want to enquire is this: If we are so useless, why did the Great Australian Taxpayer fork out all those millions to pay for Poms to migrate to Oz for ten quid? I assume a fair number of you must be descended from £10 migrants.

DML, I hope you're right. In the meantime, it might at least give the Pom-haters something to think about. I worked at Australia House from 1965 to 1976, and actually did a bit of work on £10 migrant do*****ents. I wasn't in the Migration Department (which was so big at that time it occupied another building) but they were so busy there was extra cash to be earned doing routine work there on overtime. Come to think of it, it's a nice little thought, when I read some of the anti-Pom stuff, that the Australian taxpayer was paying my wages for eleven years!

I think you might get the perception because most people here are about 15 and haven't actually developed an understanding of how fantastic the relationship we have to England is.

If somebody is typing another's opinion into submission, the only way to fight them off is to attack them personally. I think you know the reason for the 10 quid too.

Yeah half of my family are ten pound poms. That makes me 50% English unfortunately, I don't mind the english unless we play them in a sporting event then I hate them!
