They picked Wing on a number of reasons
1. Versatility (Hooker, Half, Five-Eighth)
2. Defence (One of the strongest defenders in the competition, his defensive reads are very good, as well as his one-on-one)
3. Exceptional Ball Runner (Best ball runner in the comp, his reaction of receiving a ball and putting on a step and or accelearation to break the line is just freakish)
4. International Experience, his composure and ability to perform under pressure is great.
5. Experienced Kicking Game, has played three key positions in his career, which a kicking game is involved, out of dummy half, at five-eighth and halfback.
Why they didnt pick Orford ?.
1. Stocky bloke, couldnt see him as any sort of versatile player, wouldnt be that effective at hooker and is fairly slow so not a great ball runner.
2. His individual defence isnt that flash as is much of the other halves of the competition.
Why Orford didnt get picked ahead of Cronk (who perhaps hasnt been that convincing) ?, Cronk would be invaluable with his combination with his fellow storm internationals.
Alan Tongue is very under-rated. He isn't a massive tryscorer (although in 2006 he was the raiders second top tryscorer), but he certainly is attacking minded, it's just that the raiders now have a lot of attacking players so he doesn't need to be as creative. He does for the raiders what the team needs him to do. You talk about Craig Wings versatility, well what about Tongue's. He can and has played second row, lock, hooker, five eighth and if he needed to I'm sure he could slot into the centres Defence, he is a wonderful defender. If Wing is the best ball runner in the comp then I'm Joan of Ark. When was his last international? If this is the critera then why don't we give Langlands a call and get him to pull on the aussie jersey. International experience doesn't mean much when it was 5 years ago. He has a decent kicking game, but it is woeful when compared to Orford's. Orford is leading the Dally M count. He has been the most consistent player this season. Wing has only played a handful of games and does not deserve to be in the top 46. I actually like Wing and certainly wouldn't knock him back from my club, but if I was picking the Australian team, Wing probably wouldn't make it if I was picking 100 blokes.

He's the type of player that needs to be given a regular starting spot,in order for him to fully play to his potential. I think the best thing Ivan could do is give him regular game time and build his confidence up,because he's pretty hot when he's playing with confidence.

For his and your point, hannent can be overated, cos he plays for QLD. But I dont reackon hes rated too.....but meh, who cares.

He didn't make the top 40 of the Aussie squad and England knocked him back also...in my books that means the people who matter (selectors) don't rate him.

The grub tag is silly in the extreme – he's simply a tough forward doing his job.
