Just wanted to see everyone's thoughts on who should be the New Wallaby Captain... It's seems the Front Runner for capt is Phil Waugh; NSWRU and certain members of the Media are right behind him. Mainly because NSW hasn't had a wallaby captain in ages.... (since Nick Farr Jones i think).. But I can't see it happening unless they wack George Smith, his form is too good to be ignored, sorry Phil ...back to the bench son... Mortlock (the current capt) has upset alot of people in the wallaby circle. Also he was captain during the horrible RWC campaign, many people want to see a clean slate Again it looks against him... Then you've got the maybe's all of whom have some who have experience at provincial and/or National level as captain or senior leadership. Sharp, Smith,Vik's,Gits and rocky... I like to throw a wild card in and say my choice, Lote... I know i know, he's a winger..... BUT he's a great role model for the younger players and really organizers the back line (players like beale really look up to him)... I think he's leadership skills this year have been Outstanding and leads by example on the field. He really show's passion for the game, as well as loyalty. It also heaps that he is a marketing dream and is one of the game biggest profiles ... and that's important too

Sharpe (he'll be in the side with Vickerman gone) or Mortlock still are the only ones I can see doing a good job.

i agree, sharp or mortlock
Lote i don't think has it in him, he needs to focus on his own game

I like your wild card Bateman. Leadership is structured these days so being a captain at fullback or wing etc doesnt matter. We havent seen the best of Lote yet, last year was a big improvement, nobody has tried harder than him in recent years and he has been unfairly criticised when the team hasnt been up to it, just like Cullen in his last season before going overseas, the Hurrican backs were a letdown everytime he tried to come into the attack when he came back from injury. I think it would be a good idea for there to be no captain in the forwards so that they all take personal responsibility for how the game goes, which could make the forward pack a very effective unit. In the last tri-nation game last year at Eden Pk they outperformed the AB forwards in the first half and were very clinical but the ref stuffed their game in the second half. It should be 'unfinished business' this season.

*very good point...they need to get back that forward pack mentality. *agree Cullen was treated pretty s hit by NZRU * again on Lote, just watching him on inside Rugby a couple of weeks ago, one thing came across. He's REALLY passionate about the tah's and about Rugby in general. He good at the PR stuff and always gives an honest answer. I just think he should be rewarded for his loyalty. Especially at a time when other converts have been sooo ungrateful.

OMG YULLEH! Nice WRX Habib! Unless that were to happen, id say the 'Wonder'Bra Boys will stay fairly dosile...or as dosile as they get.

If my backline is picked the way it should be then Mortlock will captain the side. 15 Gerrard 14 Mitchell 13 Mortlock (C) 12 Tuqiri 11 Hynds 10 Giteau 9 Burgess Put Barnes, Ashley-cooper-bill williams, on the bench... That side would cream anything the All Blacks will put in their backline. I'm going to stick my neck out this year and say the Tri Nations will be between Australia and Saffers with the Kiwis struggling to keep up with their much improved rivals. The Kiwis have serious problems at 9, 12, 13 and 15 whereas the other two countries have an abundance of talent in those positions. South Africa seem to me to have a few world class backs in their midst and the Aussies are dripping with class. When Kiwis start talking up Tuitavaki or Kahuhi in the side then you know they are in dire straits. Those two would struggle to get a bench spot for the Brumbies or the Sharks.

Hynds won't be 11... there's talk of putting Tyrone Smith there

We'll see... I don't think Smith would get in ahead of the other two. But they need a specialist left and right wing combo.
Who knows who the ABs will stick on their wings... It'd be a fair bet to say a Fijian or 2... They'll never learn...
