Lakers - Already daunting and have improved with fit Bynum. Phoenix - Bigger, not better. Houston - Inconsistent, injury prone and overrated. Portland - Young team on the rise. Have improved. Utah - About the same as last year, maybe a touch stronger New Orleans - Not as good as last year, lack the depth. Denver - Seem better with Billups, but we'll see. Not convinced.
Then there's Dallas, San Antonio and Golden State, who are weaker. It's doubtful IMO we will see as many 50 win teams in the West this season. The only scary side is LA.

+2 My only issue with New Orleans is that they havent hit their full stride. Still the honeymoon period it seems. Denver look a lot better defensively with Billups, but now my problem is offense. They look very very stagnant when Melo is out.

As far as Denver is concerned, I thought the trade would unleash JR Smith off the bench to relieve some of the scoring punch lost with Iverson. But Smith's role hasn't really changed and if anything he is struggling, which is the answer to why he isn't starting. But agree, without Melo on the floor the Nuggets don't have anyone who can consistently create their own shot.
