What about these claims being made that League is set to overtake Union as the most popular sport in Fiji? I am a pretty big league fan and play union. Lets be honest here, Fiji has a very proud union tradition, they have been world 7s champions and in the 2007 world cup they played magnificently, easily their best WC performance.

Now their league team makes the semi-finals of the League WC against pretty ordinary teams, and suddenly there are all these claims that league will become the dominant Fiji sport. Is there even any proof, or just outlandish statements?

Whose made these claims?

The media?

This is the first i've heard. I doubt this will be enough for league to dislodge union as Fiji's number one code.

As you mention above, they have a very rich union history.

Rugby is Fiji's game. and especially 7's. Fiji are just excited about making the semis kind of like NZ were when the Warriors had there playoff run and the country was behind them but once they lost it disappeared

is there actually any proof to dispell these claims?

Man up union boy. Fiji can run quick but are ***** at 15 on 15 so let them play league if their hearts are set on it.
