You are just getting screwed by the man! If everybody said, no way............find another sucker then they would probably buckle but somebody will always do it for free. It's not like it is a charity and they can't afford to pay you...........................................Hang on, is this for real or just a joke??? powerrules wrote:

Ummmmm, You can't just apply without training and experience. Llast time I checked, you have to do a linesman course and then work for next to nothing at juniors events and challengers etc and once you get enough experience, you might get a chance at the Oz Open. Generally it takes between 1 to 2 years to even get considered for the Australian Open. I was seriously going to do it but I just didn't have time in my life to dedicate to something like that as much as I would have loved to have.

There's a teacher at my school who used to be a Pro Umpire, umpired in Grand Slam Finals and all, and he is one of the selectors of linesman and he was going to get me and my mates in, but he never followed through with it.

Then he was full of $hit about getting you in. Like I said, you can't just 'get in'! You have to do a course and then 12 months later at least you might be lucky.

Good for you I hope you enjoy it. It's a great event to go to live. I haven't been since 99. If you're a tennis fan you'll enjoy it. i would like to go next year but I don't know if my favourite player is playing on next year and if she doesn't I don't want to shell out the money for the tickets.

Probably true, but he did get me another job at the Open paying $3000 for 3 weeks work, doing pretty much nothing.

I wonder if Lleyton Hewitt will be back in time for the Australian Open...........or whether he will be back at all, with wife with baby on way and all. I sense the end is near for him.

So who's going to The Aussie Open next year?
I'm off to the Brisbane International and then off to the Australian Open. Looking forward to seeing the new Brisbane centre also.

Australian Open is basically used as a launching pad for all their new shows their rpomoting. There's no way they'll stop those. 2 weeks till Hopman Cup starts, it's coming around quickly.

i can NOT WAIT for Hopman Cup - it is going to be AWESOME!!! Safin and Safina! if only i could go to Perth - i would rather be at the Hopman Cup than Oz Open. i know that sounds silly, but think about it - Safin, Hewitt, Simon - three of my absolute favourite players going head to head. and Safin wouldnt be as serious and hard on himself there - hel be more relaxed and hence would be great to watch cos hel be so cool with the crowds. oh man i WISH i could go Hopman Cup...

The first year I went I ended up sitting with the Rafters I was going to go last year and went to the travel agent the day tickets went on sale but the girl handling my booking was away for a week. By the time she come back she said that the only seats left were in the upper level near the rafters. So I didn't go and went Barra fishing up north instead. This year I booked early with a different agent but they could only tell me aproximately where we would be sitting, but it should be on the lower level. If you end up with c rappy seats you can soon check out what has been vacant for awhile down on the lower level and go and sit there. A bit harder if you are not on your own. If somebody comes along and says you are in their seat, it's as simple as"no problems, here's your seat back" and move to another one. The first year I went (2004) I started sitting with the raters (getting sick of this joke yet) and then I ended up sitting 1 seat behind Martina Navratilova and at one stage I was sitting right next to Lisa Raymonds coach when she defeated Venus Williams. (I made sure I made a good show of barracking for Raymond, and when the match was over I congratulated him, got up and left hehe) I think a lot of the good seats get saved for the VIPs which sux. Up high in the stands is good if you want to be a part of the brigade of people who sing chants and call out obscure remarks. Down low in the stands is good if you want to see the players expressions up close and hear them say things etc. I don't know if there is any real way of guaranteeing a prime seating position unless you are a VIP. I don't know about buying through ticketec. Probably the same deal. 2010 I plan on buying a middle of the road corporate box at the Brisbane International using my business so I should get half decent seats in a good position. I know that's not exactly what you asked but as far as I'm concerned a package deal with good seats is 'a good package deal' because the only other real concern is your accomodation and you are not really going to spend much time in your room anyway except to just sleep and shower.

The Hopman cup is my favourite Tennis tournament for a number of reasons. Solid players always turn up, there are doubles matches, there's something for everybody and it's such a friendly and relaxed tournament.
