Not long now til the beginning of a new season, so here's the Offical Thread for all Matchday talk and happenings in Germany's top tier of football. All the action begins on August 6th where Borussia Dortmund host Hamburg at home to no doubt a sold out 80,000+ crowd at Signal Iduna Park. But before all that can happen, July 23rd sees Bundesliga Champions Borussia Dortmund take on DFB Cup winners Schalke 04 in the Supercup. Returning for the new season after being crowned Champions of 2nd Division last season are Hertha BSC and making there debut in the big time are FC Augsburg at the expense of FC St. Pauli and Eintracht Frankfurt who were relegated. Seriously cannot wait for the season to begin. Last season was truly amazing and one can only hope we can follow it up again and I believe we can. Also Champions League action is on the agenda, so exited for that. Will continue to post news and the key transfers up until the action begins. C'mon you Black & Yellows!

The Bundesliga is always interesting. I'm hoping that Dortmund can hold off big-spending Bayern and go back-to-back.

With injuries to Robben and Ribery and Badstuber and Boateng still young and gelling together, it's going to be integral Bayern don't go off the rails in the opening month or two as they did last season. Likewise, Dortmund and the rest of the contenders will be looking to get the jump on them early. Big season coming up for sure!

While Dortmund got caught out by Real Madrid on Sahin's release clause, I just wonder if they can't be a better team without him. Götze, Kagawa and Großkreutz are fantastic talents. It will also be interesting to see if Ivan Perisic makes a quick transition to Bundesliga football; he was incredible for Club Brugge last season. The defensive structure remains stout, particularly that combination of Hummels and Subotic at CB.

The 49th season of Bundesliga gets under way in the early hours of tomorrow morning with the champions looking to kick the season of in style. Borussia Dortmund will host Hamburg in front of a sell out 80,000+ crowd.
New signing Chris Lowe and Ilkay Gündogan are set to make their debuts for Dortmund, Lowe will play at left back whilst the injured Schmelzer is out. Gündogan has been very impressive in warm up games since coming from Nurnberg and with Sahin going to Real Madrid he has a big void to fill. Barrios is a huge blow, injuring himself in the Copa America, Lewandowski is a top striker and will be the main focal point upfront for several weeks. Kagawa has overcome his season ending injury last year and will pose a real threat to Humburg defence. Was fantastic signing last season and took the Bundesliga by storm.
Couple of interesting facts, Dortmund have never won an opening day fixture after claiming the title previously, Hamburg however have never lost to the new Champions on the opening day in 5 games. Dortmund havnt lost at home since Matchday 1 last season going down to Leverkusen. This match has had more goals than any other pairing also never ended in 0-0.
Did struggle again Hamburg last season with the 2 games ending 2-0 win and 1-1 draw. There a decent team and can trouble any opponent. Pressure is on us well and truly to repeat last season and get off to a winning start, we really should get maximum points here, Hamburg have been very scratchy pre season and there new look side still needs time to gel.

I don't follow the bundesliga too closely, but I have a soft spot for Dortmund due to them former players like Sammer, Kohler and Riedle so I was pretty happy to see them come through and win it.
Hopefully they can keep the vultures from circling long enough to make an impact in the CL.

HT and we take a 2-0 lead at the break. Complete dominance, with Grosskreutz netting the opener, actually off the upright, and then Gotze not long after doubling the lead. Both goals came from beautiful passing, especially Lewandowski back heel was superb to the running Gotze who cooley slotted it past the keeper. Kagawa has been most dangerous and unlucky not to have scored, dodged 3 defenders on the edge of the box and saw his shot cannon into the upright, then was teed up from a long way out but his shot was just wide and Gundogan curling shot right on HT also just went past the diving keeper. Hamburg havnt looked like threatening, Weindenfellers had an easy time so far. Brilliant first half.

FT 3-1 in the end. Grosskreutz kicked off the 2nd half in fine style with a 2nd goal for the game and it was looking like a fairly cosy game, 75 minutes, substitutions made all is well, then Hamburg score a s****py goal from corner, fail to clear the area, 22 players in the box, legs flying everywhere and the balls in the back of the net, 2 mintues later, Hamburg should have had a 2nd and game on, Weidenfeller making a diving fingertip save, Phew! Hamburg pressed hard the last 10 minutes, but we held strong to kick off the season with a top win! Now for some sleep.

Good 2-0 win in the end over Nurnburg. Was a pretty uninspiring game for majority of the match. Really need Barrios back to liven things up front but still 3 points is 3 points!
Some huge scores elsewhere ..
FT Augsburg 0 - 2 Hoffenheim FT Bayern Munich 5 - 0 Hamburger SV FT Borussia Dortmund 2 - 0 Nurnberg FT Stuttgart 0 - 1 Bayer Leverkusen FT Werder Bremen 5 - 3 Freiburg

0-0 with Leverkusen in a very frustrating match. Gotze red carded for absolutely nothing after Kadlec was minutes before him for a nasty challenge. Disallowed goal which was a joke, the referee blew the whistle for the set piece, turns his back Hummels scores with a header the referee says take it again I wasn't looking, disgraceful! Dominated after a drab first half and deserved better once we where a man up, had numerous chances to score, some top keeping kept Leverkusen in it as well as luck, 3 times cleared the ball off there goal line in a matter of minutes and still attacked when Gotze was sent off, just couldn't get it in the back of the net. need Barrios back ASAP! Need that creative flare upfront.
Rest of scores ..
FT Freiburg 3 - 0 Wolfsburg FT Hamburger SV 3 - 4 1. FC Cologne FT Hoffenheim 1 - 2 Werder Bremen FT Kaiserslautern 0 - 3 Bayern Munich FT Nurnberg 1 - 0 Augsburg FT Bayer Leverkusen 0 - 0 Borussia Dortmund

Although scoring late, it was nothing more than luck that brought about a goal, utterly disgraceful performance tonight, against Hertha and @ home too! Lose 1-2 and slip further down the table. No Gotze today was massive loss due to suspension from last week's draw .. Dunno how much longer we can go without Barrios.
UCL midweek v Arsenal, massive game .. Dont watch much of Arsenal to be honest but it looks equally poised match after there similar slow start to new season.
Bayern again destroy opponents, this time Freiburg conceeded 7! Hand them the Championship already.
B. Moenchengladbach 1 - 0 Kaiserslautern Bayern Munich 7 - 0 Freiburg Dortmund 1 - 2 Hertha Berlin Mainz 0 - 4 Hoffenheim VfB Stuttgart 3 - 0 Hannover
